This is what I think about when I think about running
“Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional” ― Haruki Murakami
Part of the joy of being a copywriter, is that writing becomes a pleasure rather than a pain.
Hence I find myself frequently being ‘volunteered’ for write-ups. One recent example was for the Abingdon parkrun. http://www.parkrun.org.uk/abingdon/
Parkrun has become a national phenomenon – a free, timed 5km run at 9:00am every Saturday morning, which started off with 1 event in Bushy Park just over 10 years’ ago, and has now expanded to over 400 events worldwide, in places as far afield as South Africa and Australia.
Now, I’m definitely not one of the front runners, having found my niche in the middle of the ‘pack’, but on this particular occasion, I found myself running faster than I’d meant to. I’ll let my Run Report pick up the story:
“Training had been light during the week, and I’d probably consumed one glass of wine too many the previous evening, so had therefore awarded myself the ‘opt out’ of just jogging round without pushing myself too hard.
Of course, that plan went straight out the window after the first 200m, when the sound of an all-terrain buggy started looming ominously close behind me. ‘I’ll just make sure I stay ahead of that noise’, I thought to myself. And so the suffering began.”
For the rest of the write-up, see the following link to the run dated 7th March 2015 http://www.parkrun.org.uk/abingdon/news/
I’d like to think that any Report deserves a touch of care, or a smidge of imagination – after all, it’s a safe environment in which to experiment.
