Case Studies – the SEO killer

SEO – Search Engine Optimization. One of my less favoured terms.

Why? Because, from a copywriter’s point of view, it encourages poorly written material, as evidenced by some of the appalling ‘keyword stuffing’ which used to take place.

However, matters are now improving, with Google constantly tweaking its algorithms in order to reward genuinely useful and frequently read websites.

Here’s 5 reasons why Case Studies are an SEO killer…without even trying!

1. Original content – there’s nothing more original than a Case Study – it’s the relationship between your customer and your product/service. It can’t be replicated.

2. Internal links – chances are, you’ll direct website visitors to your Case Studies, not just via your HOME page, but via other pages as well, such as ‘Our Products’, ‘Our Story’…etc. This also happens to be good for SEO scores.

3. External links – reference your client’s website in your Case Study? Bingo for SEO!

4. Header tags – a good Case Study will tell a story with headings and sub-headings. Kerching – great for SEO!

5. Photo tags – label your photos so that they relate to your Case Study (known as meta tags) and voilà; e.g ‘Photo of x with his software client y’

So, a genuine Case Study is great for rankings….and hopefully not too bad either for sales and brand-building!
